FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas head men’s basketball coach Mike Anderson’s visits around the state continued onFriday when he visited Paragould, Ark., for a round of golf and rally on Thursday.
A record number 39 four-person teams were signed up for the event which was held at the Paragould Golf Club and saw the winners of the best ball tournament shoot 18-under par. Anderson’s game was not quite what he wanted to showcase, but the head Razorback has been busy visiting several Razorback clubs, recruiting and working out his new team and not on the golf course.
Several former Razorbacks attended the event including football players Steve Cox, one of Anderson’s teammates in the golf round, Verl Mitchell, basketball player Ernie Murray, baseball player Jim Calhoun and golfer Brian Wagner.
As fans packed into the clubhouse for a barbeque dinner, the program began with a raucous Hog Call as Anderson was introduced to the crowd. He immediately let those in attendance know how much he appreciated their enthusiasm and asked that they bring that same intensity with them to Bud Walton Arena next fall when the basketball team opens its season.
The next stop for Anderson is a trip to Hot Springs on Wednesday, May 11, and will be followed by trips to Fort Smith and Forest City.
