FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Guard Jannero Pargo has signed a national letter of intent to attend the University of Arkansas and play for the Razorback basketball team it was announced on Friday.
The 6-1, 170-pound junior college product from Chicago, Ill., will join the Razorback basketball program next fall as a junior. Pargo averaged 22.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 6.2 assists per game last season at Neosho Community College in Chanute, Kan.
“We are very delighted that we have signed one of our top, top prospects,” Arkansas head coach Nolan Richardson said. “He will bring the play-making part of his game along with his outside shooting and defense. He brings maturity, experience and age. He can help us in all of those departments. We are glad he is a Razorback.”
Pargo was named the Jayhawk League Eastern Division Most Valuable Player last season after leading his squad to a 27-6 record including a run to the semifinals of the Region VI tournament. He also led his squad to a 15-3 league record and a conference co-championship in the Jayhawk League’s Eastern Division.
He shot 43 percent from three-point range last season and posted 28 points and a school- record 16 assists in a game during his sophomore campaign.
Pargo is the second student-athlete to ink with the Hogs for next season. Forward Michael Jones from Little Rock, Ark., signed with the Razorbacks in the fall signing period.
