Pearson Named to SEC Community Service Team

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For the second-consecutive year, senior Megan Pearson represents the University of Arkansas softball team on the SEC Community Service Team which was announced Friday by the league office. The SEC sponsors a Community Service Team for all 21 league-sponsored sports to highlight a student-athlete from each school.

Pearson served as the secretary for Arkansas’ Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) during the 2014-15 academic year. She was involved in “Shop with SAAC” which took local elementary children shopping during the holiday season and helped organize the annual Canned Food Drive to donate to the food pantry on campus during Thanksgiving. Pearson also helped fundraise for the Top Hog Talent Show which raised proceeds that went toward the benefit of area children through the Yvonne Richardson Center.

The Centerville, Ohio, native was also active in the Red Ribbon Rally to promote the message of working hard in school and making good life decisions. The event was attended by more than 1,500 local elementary children. She had additional visits to local elementary schools with Arkansas’ Book Hogs and Sweat Hogs programs. Pearson was part of the ‘That’s so 6%’ campus-wide campaign with Arkansas’ RESPECT (Rape Education Services by Peers Encouraging Conscious Thought) initiative.

On the field, Pearson appeared in 19 games during her senior season with 18 starts at first base. She recorded a career-high three hits against LIU Brooklyn during the season-opening FAU Kick-Off Classic in Boca Raton, Fla. Pearson had a season-high 14 putouts April 11 at South Carolina.
