Perrotta and Roy advance to finals

FT MYERS, Fla. — Two Razorback women’s tennis players continued their strong start to the 2010 spring season on Sunday by advancing to the finals in their respective flights at the Florida Gulf Coast Invite in Ft. Myers, Fla. Sophomores Fernanda Perrotta and Stephanie Roy each remained undefeated in singles play and will play in the finals of their flights on Monday.

“Once again today we executed well,” said head coach Michael Hegarty. “For this early in the spring season today’s performances were encouraging”

In only her second match as a Razorback, Perrotta soundly defeated Maria Christensen of Missouri in straight sets 6-2, 6-3 to earn the opportunity to play in the final match against Angelika Jogasuria of Akron for flight six.

Over in flight 3, after falling behind in the first set 3-6, Roy won the next two sets, 6-1, 10-7, to defeat her opponent, Bhavani Tirumurti of Purdue. Roy will play the final match of her flight against Melanie Aguirre of UNF on Monday.
