Pierce earns SEC Swimmer of the Week honors

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas swimmer Leah Pierce was named the Southeastern Conference Swimmer of the Week by the league office after breaking school records in the 100 and 200 breast at the Minnesota U.S. Grand Prix last weekend.

A junior transfer from Purdue, Pierce is the first Razorback swimmer or diver to be honored by the conference office this season.

On Friday, the first day of the Grand Prix, Pierce broke the school record in the 100 breast, touching in at 1:02.74, in third place. On Saturday, Pierce shattered the Arkansas record in the 200 breast, winning the event with a time of 2:10.96, almost five seconds faster than the previous record of 2:15.63 set by Pierce earlier the same day. Pierce’s time in the 200 breast is the fastest in the SEC this season and the second fastest in the country.
