FAYETTEVILLE – Following a team win over No. 1 Florida and after claiming seven individual titles in two meets over the weekend, Arkansas junior All-American Jaime Pisani has been named the Southeastern Conference’s Gymnast of the Week.
This is the second SEC honor of the year for the native of Ringwood, N.J.
She was recognized earlier this season after winning the all-around for a fourth consecutive meet when Arkansas recorded its first-ever victory over No. 4 Georgia.
Last week, Arkansas scored a season-high 196.70 in the win over No. 1 Florida. Two days later, on Sunday, the No. 12 Razorbacks recorded their best road score of the season with a 196.50 in the win at No. 45 Illinois-Chicago. The win over Florida also gave Arkansas a 5-1 final record in the SEC and a tie for the regular-season championship.
Against the Gators, Pisani won the all-around with a career-high 39.60, which ties for the fifth-best mark in school history. She also won vault with a 9.925, floor with a 9.90 and beam with a 9.875. She led the team in all four events, adding a 9.90 on bars. Her beam and bars scores are also career highs with the 9.90 on bars matching the sixth-best mark in school history and 9.925 on vault matching the seventh-best score.
At UIC on Sunday, she won the all-around for the seventh time this season, scoring a 39.35. She tied the school record she already shared and won floor with a 9.95, and won vault with a 9.90. She also had a 9.75 on both bars and beam.
"Somehow Jaime just keeps getting better," co-head coach René Cook says. "I’m not sure how that happens. As she demands more from her teammates, she makes herself better. She’s very deserving and we’re very happy for her and the team."
Pisani has 21 individual titles for the season, including seven all-around, three on vault, two on bars, one on beam and eight on floor. For her career, she has 52 individual wins.
She is ranked No. 3 in the nation on floor, No. 11 on vault and tied for No. 8 in the all-around. In the South Central Region rankings, she is No. 1 in the all-around and on floor, No. 3 on vault, tied for No. 9 on beam and tied for No. 10 on bars.
Pisani is just the sixth Razorback to earn SEC Gymnast of the Week honors and only the second to win the award more than once. Former All-American Casey Jo Magee earned four SEC honors and Pisani now has two. Michelle Stout, Dana McQuillin, Katie Hardman and Cassie Drew are the other Razorbacks to receive the weekly award.
Pisani and the Razorbacks close their home schedule this week at 7 p.m. on Friday in Barnhill Arena against No. 27 West Virginia.
