Plasencia Leads Round One Of Q School

MISSION HILLS, Calif. – Four current and former University of Arkansas women’s golf team members are taking part in Stage 1 of the LPGA’s Qualifying School at Mission Hills Country Club in Mission Hills, California, this week.

Former Razorbacks Regina Plasencia, Victoria Vela and 2017 graduate Summar Roachell are in the field along with current Razorback Jordy LaBarbera.

Plasencia came off the course in the lead after the first round at 7-under shooting 65 on Thursday. She opened play with three consecutive birdies and added a fourth on the fifth hole turning 4-under. Plasencia picked up birdies on Nos. 10, 13 and 14, finishing her round bogey-free on Thursday.

LaBarbera is tied for 41st overall carding a 1-under 71. Her scorecard had three birdies and two bogeys in the first round. The Allen, Texas, native played the Palmer Course Thursday while Plasencia was on the Player’s Course.

Roachell and Vela are tied for 181st with a 3-over 75 after round one.

Players take part in a 72-hole stroke play format. Competition takes place with one round each on the Dinah, Player and Palmer courses at Mission Hills Country Club. A cut will be made after 54 holes and the final round takes place on the Dinah course. A minimum of the top 60 finishers plus ties will move on to Stage II at Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice, Florida.

In other action …
Former Razorback Stacy Lewis is tied for 11th after round one action at the Canadian Pacific Women’s Open. Lewis fired a 2-under 69 and is three shots back of the leader.

Former Razorback Gabriela Lopez finished 2-over with a 73 in the first round. Lopez is tied for 80th.
