FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Former University of Arkansas women’s golfer Regina Plasencia fired a five-under round winning the Monday qualifier and moving on to weekend play at the Walmart NW Arkansas Championship presented by P&G.

Professional player Plasencia, who graduated in 2016, carded a 66 on the par 71 course at Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers. Her score was the lowest in the 17-player qualifying field allowing the Guadalajara, Mexico, native to move on to Friday and Saturday’s play. It is the second time she has qualified for the field after advancing last year as well.

Plasencia had five birdies and no bogeys in the round – the first time in her career that she recalls a bogey-free round.

Plasencia was one of five current or former Razorbacks trying to make the field. Razorback sophomore Maria Fassi shot a 3-under 68 missing the qualifying spot by one stroke. Victoria Vela shot even-par 71 while current Razorback Kaylee Benton counted a 72 and 2017 graduate Summar Roachell shot 73.

Fassi hit 17 greens in regulation and finished strong with a birdie on 18 thanks to a good putt.

Plasencia moves on to the weekend, giving Arkansas five representatives in the field for the second year in a row. #ProHogs Stacy Lewis and Gabriela Lopez are LPGA Tour members and headline the field of Razorbacks. Former Razorback Emily Tubert, also a professional player, is also in the field.

“It’s awesome,” said Plasencia. “I had a great experience here and I love the support you get walking around the golf course. It feels like home here and I really love it. I played a really solid round of golf. I made my birdies. I kept my focus. I knew the scores were going to be low and I couldn’t let up. I made a birdie on No. 18 and hoped that would be enough.”

Razorback junior Alana Uriell rounds out the Razorbacks this weekend. Uriell earned a sponsor’s exemption and is making her second consecutive appearance after advancing through the qualifier last year.

Tee times have not been announced yet.
