ANTALYA, Turkey — University of Arkansas freshman Regina Plasencia fired a first round 79 at the World Amateur Team Championship in Antalya, Turkey, Thursday. Plasencia, a native of Guadalajara, Mexico, is tied for 99th overall while team Mexico is tied for 22nd after the first round. She opened her day on the first hole of the Gloria Golf Club and was even for the first two holes. She suffered back-to-back bogies on three and four but rallied with a birdie on the par four fifth hole, moving to one-over. Plasencia turned at plus three and managed two birdied on the second nine but struggled with four bogies and a double finishing with a seven over 79. The World Amateur Team Championships are a biennial international amateur event that rotates among three geographic zones of the world: Asia-Pacific, Americas and Europe-Africa. Plasencia will take part in stroke play for four days, through Sunday.
