Poppell announces 2006-07 swimming and diving schedule

Jump to 2006-07 schedule FAYETTEVILLE – University of Arkansas head coach Jeff Poppell announced the 2006-07 swimming and diving schedule Wednesday, featuring three Southeastern Conference opponents. Three of the first four Arkansas swimming and diving meets include SEC members South Carolina, Louisiana State, and Georgia. South Carolina finished sixth place in the SEC, while LSU finished eighth, just in front of Arkansas. Perennial powerhouse, Georgia, won the 2006 SEC Swimming and Diving Title, took second at the 2006 NCAA Championships and won the national title in 2005. “I am excited to have the opportunity tosee the other SEC schools early in the season especially since we’ll be facing them again at the SEC Championships,” said Poppell. The Lady Razorbacks open the season on Oct. 13 at South Carolina. Another road meet will follow Oct. 28 at Nebraska. Arkansas’ home schedule begins Nov. 4 against LSU. “With LSU being our first home meet, it gives us a chance to see where we stand against a team that finished right above us in the SEC,” said Poppell. Arkansas travels to Athens, Ga., Nov. 17 for its last meet of the month. The Lady’Backs face Georgia and Emory in a double dual meet. The first weekend in December, Arkansas travels to Columbus, Ohio for the Ohio State Invitational. The Lady’Backs will have the opportunity to compete in the Bill and Mae McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion, which is the site of the 2008 NCAA Championships. Arkansas swimming travels to Sarasota, Fla., and Arkansas diving travels to Miami, Fla., for their winter training trip Dec. 16-22. The Lady’Backs host two meets in January, welcoming Denver and Missouri State on Jan. 6, and Drury on Jan. 20. Denver was the runner-up in the 2006 Sun Belt Swimming and Diving Championships. Arkansas defeated Drury last season and earned its first team win of the year. The SEC Championships are held in Lexington, Ky. Diving is set for Feb. 2-4 with swimming to follow on Feb. 7-10. NCAA Zone Diving Championships are March 1-3 in College Station, Texas followed by the NCAA Championships March. 8-10 in Minneapolis, Minn.
