Arkansas vs. Ole Miss

Post-Game Quotes

Arkansas Head Coach John Pelphrey

”Ole Miss is very good. Coach (Andy) Kennedy does a great job with his team. We guarded them really well early on, but we just couldn’t make a lot of shots. We had good opportunities (from the 3-point line). We had some fundamental things we didn’t do. Things you can’t do in league play—missing free throws, not guarding the three-point line. The good part about (tonight) is we just kept playing. We didn’t have it all for 40 minutes tonight, but we got the win.

(On playing at home)

“Tonight, we were fortunate because we were playing at home. We had 20,000 people who had our back tonight. They carried us tonight.”

(On Patrick Beverley and Sonny Weems)

“Patrick (Beverley) and Sonny (Weems) made some big shots for us. They are both doing very good things.”

(On Steven Hill)

“Steven (Hill) does good things for us in and around the basket, especially on the defensive end. He had a tough task with (Dwayne) Curtis, and he played well. (Steven) is erasing about three shots per game, and that’s huge.”

(On going to Tennessee Wednesday)

”We’ve got a huge test Wednesday night. We’re going to have to play our best game. All the fundamental stuff we didn’t do tonight, we’ve got to do Wednesday.”

Arkansas Players

F, Sonny Weems

“We kept our composure all night long, and did a good job of keeping (Chris) Warren in check early.”

“It’s nice to win this close one at home against a good team, but we need to keep up our intensity, especially in practice to prepare for some tough road games.”

G, Patrick Beverley

“We won a dog fight tonight. The crowd came prepared for a good game, and I think we gave them one.

We came out with a lot of intensity tonight, but Ole Miss kept fighting—give them credit.”

F, Darian Townes

“This was one of the more physical games we’ve played so far. This should prepare us well for a couple tough road games we have coming up.”

Mississippi Head Coach Andy Kennedy

“I don’t understand (our mentality) when you get to this point in the season. Our guys came out very passive today. I could see it in their eyes. Arkansas did what they had to do tonight.”

“John [Pelphrey] has done a great job with his guys. Arkansas is one of the best teams in the league right now.”

“Arkansas just made plays. They hurt us on the glass. Their size and strength is something that overpowers us.”

“No one expected [Sonny] Weems to continue at the pace he has been at. But when you shut down an option for the Razorbacks, they have many other options.”

“[Sonny] Weems’ skill level has improved so much. He’s shooting the ball with so much confidence and that’s something that comes with time when you make the jump from junior college basketball to a conference like the one we play in.”

“I love [Patrick] Beverley. He is an incredible rebounder and he plays with such a motor. He brings great athleticism and heart to Arkansas.”

Mississippi Players

G, Chris Warren

“We didn’t come out mentally ready to play today, but as the game went on we picked it up and everyone put in a good effort. We fought hard and at the end we still had a chance to win it.”

C, Dwayne Curtis

“Our defense just looked flat. We let them get that run at the beginning of the game and that really hurt us. You can’t let an SEC team get that kind of lead on you, especially on the road.”

“Sonny Weems had some big shots, he stepped up made some plays, broke our momentum and was able to slow us down.”

G, Zach Graham

“The press took us out of our rhythm early, but we realized what we needed to do. We just didn’t start out playing as hard as we did at the end of the game.”
