Post-Game Quotes

Arkansas vs. Radford

November 26, 2005

Arkansas Head Coach Stan Heath

"It wasn’t pretty but it was a win. I was worried about this game from the beginning. I knew our focus and our legs would be questionable. We defended well but rebounded poorly. Give Radford credit. They played hard. We knew they weren’t going to just lie down.

“We held them to 24 percent filed goal shooting which was good. I was happy with our 22 assists, which meant we were sharing the ball. It was hard for us to get in sync tonight. I wanted to play a lot of guys which might have disrupted the flow but I wanted to teach a lot during this game. Sometimes it’s better to teach during a game than during practice. I could tell by our body language that the zip was just not there.”

On Vincent Hunter

“He had two blocked shots and had a good effort. It was good to get him back into the mix and he didn’t play shy at all. He is a fun guy to coach.”

On Jonathon Modica

“He played really well. He thought he could have played better. He cut down on his turnovers which got him into a little trouble in Maui. He was selective on his drives which I was pleased about. He played better all around. He held (Dan) Ross to four points.”

Arkansas Players

Ronnie Brewer:

“We were a little tired, but we knew we had to get up for this game. I think fatigue was one of the reasons for some of the breakdowns today, but we still have to be strong to be successful.”

Jonathan Modica:

“We were a little sluggish in the beginning. Our jumpers weren’t there. We were a little upset in the middle of the game, and we felt like we had to get back on track with a win. We were a little tired, but we played well enough to win. We have to start strengthening from here.”

On the 13-0 Run:

“He (Stan Heath) was a little upset. He told us to defend and rebound. We just want to get better, and defending and rebounding is a key to that.”

Vincent Hunter:

“I was excited to suit up and get on the court. My teammates were kind of tired from the long trip. We have a lot of things to work on, and defense and rebounding are the keys to us being successful this season.”

Radford Head Coach Byron Samuels

"I am proud of my team. We competed against all the elements including this being a road game, the crowd and a good Arkansas team. We continued to battle and didn’t quit. Our problem was we didn’t make shots. Our two mistakes were allowing easy buckets on transition and easy buckets off the glass. We gave it a good run.”
