Preseason All-SEC for Clark-Bibbs, Team Picked Fifth

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – University of Arkansas middle blocker Chanell Clark-Bibbs has been named to the 2015 Preseason All-SEC Team as voted on by the league’s head coaches. As a team, the Razorbacks have been picked to finish fifth in the preseason coaches’ poll. Clark-Bibbs is the program’s first preseason All-SEC selection since Jasmine Norton was picked prior to the 2012 season. Arkansas begins its season Aug. 28 against McNeese State at Barnhill Arena.

Fans can get their first look at Arkansas volleyball when the team hosts its annual Red-White scrimmage Sunday, Aug. 16, at 3 p.m. (CT) at Barnhill Arena. The event is free and open to the public.

In her first season at Arkansas, Clark-Bibbs led the 2014 team with a .337 hitting percentage on her way to All-SEC and AVCA All-South Region honors. She ranked among the top 20 in three statistical categories in the SEC at eighth in blocks per set (1.01), 12th in hitting percentage and 18th in points per set (3.25). Clark-Bibbs finished the year second on the team with 2.52 kills per set and led the team with 24 service aces.

The Houston, Texas, native reached 10 or more kills in 13 matches during her standout 2014 campaign including nine double-digit performances during the SEC season. Clark-Bibbs registered a career-high 21 kills in the Razorbacks’ road win at Georgia and had seven matches with 14 or more kills during the year. Defensively, she had 11 matches with five or more total blocks

Heading into its eighth year under the direction of head coach Robert Pulliza, Arkansas received 88 points in the preseason poll, trailing only Florida, Alabama, Kentucky and Texas A&M in the vote. The Gators were picked as the league’s preseason favorite. The Razorbacks open their conference season Sept. 23 at LSU and host Florida on Oct. 4 in its SEC home opener.

When the Razorbacks return to the court, the roster will feature 12 returners and five newcomers including its three-player senior class of Clark-Bibbs, Monica Bolinger and Liz Fortado. As part of its 2015 schedule, the Razorbacks have 15 home matches and have 13 matches overall against teams that advanced to last year’s NCAA Tournament. Arkansas is also set to face eight teams that appear in the AVCA Preseason Top 25.
