#ProHogs Update: NFL Preseason Week 2

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – With now two weeks of the NFL preseason in the books, teams and its rosters are starting to take shape as opening weekend inches closer. Many former Razorbacks are still in the mix to make those coveted roster spots and had performances to back that up.

Below is an update on how each of those former Hogs did during Week 2 of the preseason:

Philadelphia 17, Pittsburgh 0 | Game Recap
Tackle Jason Peters started for the Philadelphia Eagles and was on the field for 29 plays. Peters was held out of last week’s game against Tampa Bay, but has been practicing since Saturday.

For the Pittsburgh Steelers, wide receiver Cobi Hamilton caught four passes for 44 yards, including a long 29-yard haul midway through the fourth quarter. Hamilton led all Steeler receivers in yards and this was his second-straight game with at least two catches or more.

Cincinnati 30, Detroit 14 | Game Recap
Center Travis Swanson made his second-straight start for the Detroit Lions and was on the field for 27 plays.

Kicker Zach Hocker was held out of action by the Cincinnati Bengals for the second-straight week of the preseason. He’s been nursing an ankle injury since the first few days of training camp, but was back at practice on Sunday.

Green Bay 20, Oakland 12 | Game Recap
Guard Denver Kirkland played 19 plays Thursday night as a sub for the Oakland Raiders, but did not record any stats. 

New England 23, Chicago 22 | Game Recap
For the second-straight week, tight end A.J. Derby turned heads with his performance on offense for the New England Patriots. Derby caught six passes for 71 yards and also had the only receiving touchdown for the Patriots. Derby hauled in the score from 16 yards out just before halftime to give the Patriots the 17-11 lead. So far through two preseason games, Derby is fourth in the league in receiving yards (118) and first among all tight ends with 59.0 yards receiving per game.

Trey Flowers started at right end for the Patriots after his big game a week ago. He finished with three tackles and a half sack for two yards and one quarterback hurry, all in the first half.

Atlanta 24, Cleveland 13 | Game Recap
Tackle Alvin Bailey was on the field for 19 plays for the Cleveland Browns’ offensive line, including three on special teams. However, he did not start.

Minnesota 18, Seattle 11 | Game Recap
Running back Alex Collins got his second week of preseason action as a sub for the Seattle Seahawks and carried the ball six times for 13 yards. Collins also caught one pass for eight yards, his second-straight game with at least one catch.

Wide receiver Jarius Wright was held out of his second preseason game in a row with a lower leg injury, but did return to practice on Sunday.

Washington 22, New York Jets 18 | Game Recap
Martrell Spaight started at the middle linebacker position for the Washington Redskins during week two and tied for the team lead in tackles (4), two being unassisted. Spaight also forced one of the Jets four fumbles in the game. He now has 10 tackles through the first two preseason games.

San Diego 19, Arizona 3 | Game Recap
Tight end Hunter Henry and defensive end Darius Philon both started for the San Diego Chargers Friday against Arizona. Henry caught just one pass off one target for seven yards, but was on the field for 22 plays, five on special teams.

Philon finished the game with one tackle and was on the field for 27 plays.

Wide receiver Javontee Herndon did not play for the second-straight week for the Chargers.

Carolina 26, Tennessee 16 | Game Recap
Defensive tackle Robert Thomas was used as a substitution for the Carolina Panthers against Tennessee on Friday and he totaled two tackles, one solo for a loss in the Panthers’ victory. Friday’s performance was Thomas’ second game in row with two or more tackles.

Guard Sebastian Tretola came on as a sub for Tennessee and played 36 plays, two on special teams.

Buffalo 21, New York Giants 0 | Game Recap
Running back Jonathan Williams picked up his first preseason touchdown in Buffalo’s shutout victory over the Giants. Williams only rushed for 17 yards on eight carries, but it was still good for second on the team. He also caught two passes for 11 yards. His touchdown came on a nice 1-yard punch in as Williams leapt over the line into the end zone.

Tight end Chris Gragg caught one pass off one target for 14 yards for the Bills and he also had one assisted tackle on special teams. Saturday’s game was his second in a row with at least one catch.

Baltimore 19, Indianapolis 18 | Game Recap
Quarterback Ryan Mallett started for the second week in a row for the Ravens as he was 6-of-8 through the air for 47 yards and one touchdown. Mallett has two touchdown passes through the first two weeks of the preseason as he connected with Kamar Aiken this week from 14 yards out to give Baltimore the 7-3 lead early in the second quarter.

Defensive back Tevin Mitchel saw his first playing time of the preseason as he was on the field for seven plays for the Colts, but did not record any stats.

Tampa Bay 27, Jacksonville 21 | Game Recap
Defensive end Chris Smith had his best performance of the preseason Saturday as he totaled four tackles for the Jaguars, one for a loss, as well as two quarterback hurries. Smith logged time for 52 plays, the second-most of any Jacksonville defensive player.

Quarterback Brandon Allen saw limited time on the field for Jacksonville as he was 0-for-3 passing with one interception, all in the fourth quarter.

San Francisco 31, Denver 24 | Game Recap
Tackle Cameron Jefferson was on the field for just three plays, all on special teams, for the Denver Broncos.

Los Angeles 21, Kansas City 20 | Game Recap
Defensive back Rohan Gaines recorded four tackles in the Rams’ one-point victory over the Chiefs Saturday night. The stops were Gaines’ first of the preseason as he logged 24 plays on the field.

Running back Knile Davis carried the ball three times for two yards for the Kansas City Chiefs, as well as catching three passes for 12 yards. He also returned one kickoff for 30 yards.
