Patrick Beverley | Houston Rockets | Guard
After averaging 8.0 points, 3.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds in Houston’s back-to-back wins at Los Angeles (Lakes) and Utah in the first two nights of the NBA season, Beverley missed Saturday’s night’s home win against the Boston Celtics with a hamstring injury. An NBA All-Defensive second team choice a year ago, Beverley started the first two games at point guard and is expected to return for the Rockets’ busy four-game week.
Joe Johnson | Brooklyn Nets | G
Johnson helped Brooklyn get past its season opening loss to Boston by going for 34 points, eight rebounds and six assists in a 102-90 win at Detroit. Johnson scored 15 of Brooklyn’s 21 points in the fourth quarter and finished the game 14-of-23 from the field. The Nets will host four straight home games this, starting with their home opener against Oklahoma City on Monday.
Coty Clarke | Hapoel Kazrin (Israel) | F
Clarke put on a show in Hapoel Kazrin’s 96-90 win over Hapoel K/S last week, going for 33 points, 10 rebounds, six assists and four steals en route to being named the National League Player of the Week for round two. Hapoel Kazrin is off to a 2-0 start and will play against on Tuesday. Through his first two games, Clarke is averaging 29 points and 10.5 rebounds.
Jemal Farmer | Tokyo Cinq Reves (Japan) | G
Farmer has been dominate over his first 10 games with Tokyo Cinq Revels of the Japan BJ League. Farmer leads Tokyo Cinq at 22.4 points per game while adding 6.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists. Earlier in the year, Farmer went for 39 points on 13-of-21 from the field, highlighted by six three-pointers.
Courtney Fortson | Avtodor Saratov (Russia) | G
Behind team-high 18 points from Fortson, Avtodor picked up its first of the year in the VTB United League. Signed in the offseason by Avtodor, Fortson has reached double figures in all five games this season to average a team-high 16.2 points and five assists. An All-SEC second team choice in 2010, Fortson has also gotten to the free throw line 32 times on the year.
Marshawn Powell | Treviso Basket (Italy) | F
Posting team bests of 16 points and 10 rebounds per night, Powell has helped Treviso Basket get out to a 6-0 start in the A2 Silver League in Italy. Powell has a pair of double-doubles and two 20-point games through the first six contests. He is in his first season with Treviso Basket after spending last season in Lithuania.
Charles Thomas | Lukoil Academic Sofia (Bulgaria) | F
In his first four games with Lukoil Academic, Thomas a team-high 15.8 points along with 4.5 rebounds, Lukoil is off to a 4-0 start in the Bulgaria NBL. Thomas is shooting 61 percent (22-36) from the field.
Sonny Weems | CSKA Moscow (Russia) | G
Playing his third season with CSKA, Weems is averaging 12.8 points, 3.8 rebounds and 3.5 assists through the first four games (3-1). An All-Euroleague first team choice last year, Weems won a VTB United League title last year with CSKA. Weems and Fortson will square off twice during the regular season on Jan. 12 and April 26.
