#ProHogs Week 8 Schedule
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The NFL season rolls into Week 8 starting Thursday night when the Jacksonville Jaguars travel to Tennessee to face the Titans in a key AFC South divisional matchup. Thursday night’s game is one of 13 games on the docket this weekend for the NFL, which will include 17 former Razorbacks.
Tonight, three former Hogs will be on the sidelines as quarterback Brandon Allen and defensive end Chris Smith will be there for Jacksonville and offensive lineman Sebastian Tretola will be there for Tennessee.
Both rookies, Allen and Tretola, have yet to see playing time for their respective teams, but Smith has started to his snap count rise in recent weeks, which including a two tackle, one sack performance in Week 4 against Indianapolis.
The Jaguars (2-4) and Titans (3-4) kick off at 7:25 p.m. as part of NFL Network’s coverage of Thursday night football.
Henry and Hamilton Shine Over Recent Weeks
As for the rest of the former Razorbacks, tight end Hunter Henry for San Diego and wide receiver Cobi Hamilton for Pittsburgh have been the stars over the last few weeks. Henry has been the breakout rookie that the Chargers had hoped he would be as he has hauled in 19 catches over his last five games for 316 yards and three touchdowns.
Hamilton has only been on the Steelers’ active roster for the last two weeks after starting the year on the practice squad, but has been a sparkplug for the Pittsburgh offense. In just his two games, the former Hog wideout has brought in five catches for 72 yards and even scored his first career touchdown in his first career regular season game in Week 6 against Miami.
The Steelers are one of six teams with a bye this week, but the Chargers will look to move to .500 on the year when they take on the Broncos in Denver on Sunday at 3:05 p.m. on CBS.
Derby Part Of Trade, Sending Him To Denver
Second year pro AJ Derby had only seen spot snaps for the New England Patriots so far this season, but the quarterback turned tight end was traded to the Denver Broncos for a fifth-round pick earlier this week and could see a lot more playing time coming his way.
“We’ve been looking around,” Denver head coach Gary Kubiak said to DenverBroncos.com, “but we think this kid’s got a bright future, and it’s up to us as coaches to get him going as quickly as we can.”
Derby led the Patriots in receptions (15) and receiving yardage (189) during the preseason, but could not find much playing time behind Rob Gronkowski and Martellus Bennett.
Denver has been looking for more tight end production and think Derby is the right fit after he ranked second among all NFL players in receptions and third in yards during the four-game preseason.
