FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Razorback volleyball coach Robert Pulliza and his wife Jamie have announced the establishment of a scholarship for an incoming freshman of Hispanic heritage to attend the University of Arkansas. The Robert and Jamie Pulliza Opportunity Scholarship is a $1,500 renewable fund for students of Hispanic heritage in Benton or Washington County. “Jamie and I are extremely excited to be here in Fayetteville and to show our appreciation to our fans and our community, we wanted to establish this scholarship,” said Pulliza. Pulliza is beginning his second year as the head coach of the Arkansas volleyball team and he and wife Jamie wanted to do something for their new community. Further criteria includes that applicants be a United States citizen or a legal permanent resident, have a minimum high school cumulative grade point average of 3.00, be accepted to the University of Arkansas as an incoming freshman. In addition, recipients must be a full-time student and must pass a minimum of 27 hours each year. The scholarship is intended for non-student-athletes and is renewable for up to four years at Arkansas. “We hope this scholarship provides an opportunity to someone who might not otherwise have pursued a college degree,” Pulliza said. Pulliza is a native of Puerto Rico and came to the United States to play volleyball while attending Ball State University. Applications are currently being taken and will be accepted until June 30th. The honoree for the scholarship will be announced July 15, 2009. For more information and for the application, log on to ArkansasRazorbacks.com.
