Razorback Academic Staff Has Productive Summer

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Summer months are no longer considered an off-season for student-athletes and the same can be said for the University of Arkansas Athletics Department Academic Staff.

Several staff members attended workshops and leadership conferences in the summer months helping them grow as professionals and as members of a team. Here is a quick look at what some of the Razorback staff did.

Name: Felecia Saine, Associate AD of Academics
Conference/Institute(s) attended: NCAA/Women Leaders Leadership Enhancement Institute
Dates attended & location: July 23-26th, Kansas City, MO
Quote: I am so appreciative for the opportunity to attend NCAA/Women Leaders Leadership Enhancement Institute. The mission of the 4 day intense workshops was to develop, connect and advance. I was able to reflect on my core values and set goals to become a better version of me. Growing yourself enables you to grow others. That was the core of the institute. Lift others as you rise.

Name: Liz Reyes, Assistant Director of Employer Relations
Conference/Institute(s) attended: NCAA Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute
Dates attended & location: July 14-20th, Phoenix, AZ
A quote on how you enjoyed the conference and how you may see it benefiting you in the future (professional and personally): Attending the NCAA Charles Whitcomb Leadership Institute had an incredible impact on my professional and personal development. It was obvious throughout our 7 days that the NCAA was intentional in every component of our programming. With a cohort of 20 college athletics administrators, from all institution levels, diverse workshops, leadership assessments, expertise panelists, a team executive business project, and a site visit to Arizona State University Athletics, every participant was stretched exponentially and provided the tools necessary to become transformational leaders. Additionally, what I valued the most out of this experience was the reality that we as leaders need to hone in and capitalize on our personal values in order to be our authentic selves, lead with purpose, and build successful teams.

Name: Savannah Hall, Assistant Director of Academics
Conference/Institute(s) attended: Women Leaders Institute for Administrative Advancement
Dates attended & location: May 30-June 2, Denver, CO
Quote: Attending this conference connected with professional women from all across the country. WLCS was very intentional about diversifying the group of attendees; race, areas within athletics, demographic location, age, and experiences. In my opinion, this took the institute to a whole new level. I was challenged to dig deeper in myself to reflect how I can want to grow as a professional and also how I can be a better coworker/supervisor/colleague to those around me. I would recommend this to any mid-level administrator.

Name: Alexyss Scott, Graduate Assistant
Conference: Women Leaders in College Sports – Women’s Leadership Symposium
Date/Location: April 25th-27th
Location: Kansas City, MO
Quote: This conference was a reminder to not be afraid to put yourself out there. It felt amazing to be in a room full of diverse like-minded, energetic and inspired women who have made it and are learning how to “make it” in this industry.
Benefits: I believe that the symposium was a huge benefit both personally and professionally because you never know who you are going to meet and if you or anyone of the individuals you met will cross paths again at some point in time as you matriculate through roles in the industry.
