Razorback Golfers in 12th after Day One of SEC

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas men’s golf team sits in 12th place after the first round of the 2001 Southeastern Conference Golf Championships at Sea Island Golf Club in Sea Island, Ga., on Friday. The five Hogs shot a team score 305 in the opening round and trail Mississippi State by only one stroke.
The Hogs were led by senior All-American Craig Lile who shot a 74 (4-over par) opening round and is in a tie at 29th place. Lile, who has led the young Razorback squad in every tournament tile and has claimed three individual tournament titles this season, trails the leaders by seven strokes.
Sophomore Beau Galyean tallied the second best round for the Razorbacks shooting a 75 (5-over par) on day one and is tied for 31st place. Rounding out the Razorback line-up are redshirt freshman Adam Wing and sophomore Drew Higginbothom who are knotted with three other golfers in tie in 49th place shooting a 78 and freshman Kyle Vance in 81st place after a 81.
Leading the tournament is defending SEC champion University of Georgia who shot a five-under-par 275 in the and are 10 strokes ahead of second-place Florida at 285, and 14 strokes ahead of third-place Tennessee at 289. Georgia’s team score is an SEC Championship Record for best score after the first 18 holes of the tournament. Florida held the previous record when the Gators shot a 277 on the opening day of the 1994 tournament.
Junior Bryant Odom led the Bulldogs with a first round score of 67, which is tied for the individual lead with Ole Miss’ Andrew Medley after the first day of competition.
The tournament continues on Saturday with the second round of play and finishes with the champions being crowned on Sunday following a third round of play.
