FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The 19th ranked Arkansas golf team will kick off the 2003 spring season with the Taylor Made Big Island Classic in Kona, Hawaii on February 12-14. Senior transfer Nick Beach, juniors Andrew Dahl, Adam Wing and true freshmen Nick Beach and Darren Holder will represent the Hogs on the Kings and Queens golf courses at Waikoloa Village.
“I’m excited to get this semester started,” Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham said. “We had a really nice fall and we’re looking forward to the spring season. Darren Holder is a nice addition to our team and he will add quality and depth that we desperately need.
“This tournament will give us a good idea of where we are and an opportunity to get better. As a team, our goals haven’t changed and the guys understand what John and mine’s expectations are. We’re ready to get started.”
Coming out of the fall season Dahl leads the team with the lowest stroke average of 72.3 and a tournament victory at the Stonebridge Invitational on October 22, under his belt. Bradshaw and Wing are next with averages of 73 and 73.1, respectively, while Beach posted a 74.1 average. The Taylor Made Classic will mark Holder’s first tournament to compete as a Razorback, since joining the team at semester.
Twenty-six teams are slated to compete this weekend on the par 72, 6,594-yard course, including six teams ranked in the top 25. Joining Arkansas in the ranks are Baylor (23), Georgia Tech (22), Pepperdine (21), Texas A&M (4) and UCLA (17).
The Razorbacks will take to the course again on February 23-25, for the San Antonio Invitational in San Antonio, Texas.
