Razorback Tennis Team Suffers First Defeat of

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – In their first conference match of the season, the University of Arkansas men’s tennis team (7-1, 0-1 SEC) fell to 18th ranked Auburn Tigers (6-1, 1-0 SEC) by a score of 4-3 on Friday afternoon at the Luther Young Tennis Facility in Auburn, Ala.
The Razorbacks failed to win the doubles point for the first time this season after being swept by the Tigers. One bright spot for the Hogs came from the play of the No. 1 team of Oggie Kolev and Aleksey Bubis. They battled the No. 4 ranked doubles team in the nation before falling in a tiebreaker 9-8. Andrew Colombo and Mark Kovacs defeated Kolev and Bubis 9-8 taking the match to a tiebreaker in which Auburn won 9-7.
The Hogs suffered their first loss of the season in respectable fashion. At the No. 1 seed Arkansas Junior Oggie Kolev came away with a big win against the No. 32 player in the country Rameez Junaid 6-3, 3-6, 6-4. At the No. 2 seed, Sophomore Nathan Price of the Hogs was defeated by the No. 31 player in the country Tiago Ruffoni 6-4, 6-3.
Junior Eddie Pacheco picked up a point for the Hogs by defeating Auburn’s Mark Van Elden 6-3, 6-3. Kristofer Ivarsson added the third point by winning the match against Auburn’s Andre Boz at the no. 6 position.
The Razorbacks continue SEC play on Sunday when they travel to Tuscaloosa to take on the twenty-second ranked Crimson Tide.
