Razorback duo advance

ROCHESTER, Minn. – Fayetteville native and University of Arkansas freshman Emma Lavy fired a second round 73 and finished tied for 12th in the stroke play portion of the 110th Women’s Western National Amateur Championship Tuesday.

Lavy, and current Razorback teammate Rachel Carpenter, both moved on to the match play portion of the week-long event at the par 72, 6,125-yard Rochester Golf and Country Club.

Lavy opened with a first-round 77 for a 150 and her 12th-place tie. That score moved her into the Championship Flight where she faces Jacqueline Williams of Fair Oaks, Calif., at 11:45 a.m. Wednesday as stroke play begins.

Carpenter played two rounds with a 168 (82-86) and advanced into the First Flight pairings for Wednesday. She opens with Rachel Mayer of Flossmoor, Ill., in a 7:45 a.m. tee time.

Lavy and Carpenter both redshirted the 2009-10 season with the Razorbacks.
