Razorback freshmen honored

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas football team had two members named to the Rivals.com Freshman All-America Team, which was announced Tuesday.

Offensive guard Alvin Bailey and center Travis Swanson were honored for their outstanding first seasons as part of an offensive line that paved the way for Arkansas’ outstanding offensive output.

Bailey and Swanson each started all 12 games in the regular season for the Razorbacks, blocking for the first season in school history with a 3,000-yard passer and a 1,000-yard rusher. Hailing from Broken Arrow, Okla., and Kingwood, Texas, respectively, Bailey and Swanson were the only non-seniors to start on the offensive line. They joined three seniors on the line of an offense that leads the SEC and ranks third in the NCAA with 338.4 passing yards per game and ranks 10th in the country with 489.3 yards of total offense per game. The offense has already broken Arkansas single-season records with 5,871 yards of total offense, 4,061 passing yards, 34 passing touchdowns and 277 completions.

The eighth-ranked Razorbacks conclude their season with the first BCS game in program history when they take on No. 6 Ohio State in the Allstate Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on Jan. 4. The game, which is set to be broadcast on ESPN, kicks off at 7:30 p.m. inside the Louisiana Superdome.
