Razorback Golfer Matt Bortis Ventures to NCAA Central Regional

CLEVELAND – Arkansas junior golfer Matt Bortis begins play at the NCAA Central Regional on Thursday at the 7,136-yard, par-71 Sand Ridge Golf Club just outside of Cleveland.

Bortis is one of six individuals selected to compete at the NCAA Central Regional after the Razorbacks did not qualify as a team. He enters the event with a 72.2 scoring average that ranks third in the Southeastern Conference.

Bortis has one tournament win to his credit this season and two more top-10 finishes. He captured medalist honors at the Wolf Pack Invitational during the fall season.

It will be the third appearance at the NCAA Central Regional for the junior from Springfield, Mo. Bortis finished tied for 11th at last year’s NCAA Central Regional and tied for 45th as a freshman in 2004.

Bortis will tee off at 12:23 p.m. in Thursday’s first round. The tournament consists of three 18-hole rounds. Bortis will be aiming to qualify for the NCAA Championships that will be held from May 31 to June 3 at the Crosswater Golf Club at Sunriver Resort.
