FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas tennis completed competition at the Arizona State Thunderbird Invitational on Sunday. On the weekend tournament, the Razorbacks collected five wins in singles and doubles play.
Sunday’s action saw each of the three competing Hogs in the consolation bracket. Junior Colin Mascall fell to Thomas Rizk of Scottsdale C.C., 6-4, 6-2. Freshman Jorge Villanueva was topped by the hosting Sun Devils’ Nick Hegarty, 6-2, 6-3, while classmate Dmitry Lebedev fell to California-Irvine’s Victor Lamm, 6-3, 6-4.
On Saturday, the Razorback tandem of Mascall and Villanueva fell to the Sun Devils’ duo of Matt Brooklyn and Wes Miller, 8-3, in the semifinals of the doubles’ competition. Mascall and Villanueva took an 8-2 win from Alex Weiland and Ross DeChant of Scottsdale C.C. in consolation play.
In consolation singles’ action Saturday, Lebedev knocked off California-Irvine’s Alex Sundling, 6-4, 6-4. Villanueva defeated Scottsdale C.C.’s Rizk, 6-3, 2-6, 7-6(3), while Mascall was bested by Milan Krnjetin of Auburn, 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-3.
