Razorback Netters Topped by No. 7 Ole Miss 6-1

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 47 Razorback tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to seventh-ranked Ole Miss on Friday at the Palmer/Salloum Tennis Center in Oxford, Miss. Arkansas (10-11, 2-7) picked up its point at No. 5 singles with a straight-sets win by freshman Chris Nott.

Nott defeated Kalle Norberg, 6-3, 7-6(2), to earn his third-straight victory and 22nd win of the season. The Razorback freshman’s win total leads the team. With the win, Nott evened his conference record at 4-4 and tallied his 11th dual-match victory of the season.

The Rebels (16-4, 7-2) gained the 1-0 lead by winning the doubles point with victories at the first and second positions. Robbye Poole and Matthias Wellermann beat Colin Mascall and Dmitry Lebedev, 8-5, at No 2 doubles, and the fifth-ranked team of Erling Tveit and Jonas Berg clinched the point with its 8-5 win over Blake Strode and Matt Hogan at the top spot. Nott and Taylor King trailed, 7-5, in their match with Jakob Klaeson and Tucker Vorster when the doubles point was clinched and the match on court three was suspended.

Tveit and Poole pushed the Ole Miss lead to 3-0 with victories over Strode and Lebedev, respectively, at No. 1 and 3 singles. Tveit, ranked No. 30 in singles, posted a 6-4, 6-3 win and No. 46 Poole earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory over Lebedev.

The dual was clinched at No. 2 singles when Wellermann topped Mascall in a tight, straight-sets win, 6-4, 7-6(3). The Ole Miss indoor facility has three courts, so No. 4-6 singles were played after the completion of the matches at the top of the lineup.

The Rebels extended their lead to 6-0 with wins on courts four and six. Hogan and Tyler Tarnasky were beaten by identical scores of 6-1, 6-1 by Berg and Klaeson, respectively. Nott’s win over Norberg was the final match of the dual on court.

The Razorbacks will look to rebound against the No. 49 Mississippi State Bulldogs on Sunday. The match is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Center in Starkville. Log on to www.hogwired.com for live stats and complete results.
