Razorback Soccer Invitational Tournament this weekend

Congratulations to Root Elementary school who won the battle of the Elementary schools and had the largest number of students in attendance at our last home stand.

This weekend should be fun!

We are currently sitting at 5-1-0 after defeating Austin Peay 1-0 away from home. We did not play our best, however a wise man once told me; a win is a win!

The Sunday game against Stephen F. Austin was canceled due to Hurricane Ike.

What’s new in Razorback Soccer land?

Well, our ‘Thank You Coaches’ program is off to a great start. I have always been very impressed by the dedication of our local area coaches. I think we all have a tendency to maybe take their time commitment for granted sometimes; all are incredibly important. Not only in advancing soccer in our local area, but also in developing and nurturing the young boys and girls they come into contact with on a daily basis.

From the local soccer community to you – THANK YOU! I am certain that they do not hear that enough. Accordingly, on behalf of the soccer program at the University of Arkansas – I have extended this small token of my appreciation. Every coach in the local area, Recreational or Club, will be given two tickets to all of our home soccer games this season. I’m sure you will all join me in recognizing the amazing work they all do for all of our kids. So far, Fayetteville Parks & Rec., Ingram Comets FC and Arkansas Wizards FC have all chosen to participate.

This weekend we host a four team tournament with Missouri State, W, Michigan and Nicholls State; game schedule is as follows;

Friday 19th September

Missouri State vs. Nicholls State @ 4:30pm

Arkansas vs. W. Michigan @ 7:00pm…….should be a great game!

Sunday 21st September

Missouri State vs. W. Michigan @ 11:00am

Arkansas vs. Nicholls State @ 1:30pm

I know our women are very excited to be back playing at home as we have been traveling the past couple of weeks. They were thrilled with the crowds at our last home stand and would love to see the same passionate, large crowds return for this weekend.

Here is what is going on at the games this weekend;

At both games, we will have the usual Razorback Trivia, Bingo and signed programs. At halftime, will be Grandpa’s Oven Shoot for Dough…a chance to win lots of money!

On Friday, our sponsors are Grandpa’s Oven (giving away free food and snacks…..yum! Chick-Fil-A will be giving away some of their plush soft toys….cool!)

In addition, we will be recognizing our Special Olympics State Soccer Team. Our ladies had a wonderful time training with them this past spring and wanted to invite them back for one of our games. Please give them a huge round of applause when we recognize them at the start of the game….all are wonderful athletes who represent our state fantastically well in Special Olympics.

On Sunday, we also have lot’s going on….Our sponsor is U.S. Youth Soccer and will be giving away pom poms and t-shirts. In addition, all general admission prices are $1.00 and if you attended the Alabama football game – bring your ticker stub and get in for free!

What a bargain……give a ways, great soccer and wonderful entertainment!

Go Hogs!
