FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas volleyball team had eight student-athletes selected to the 2008 Southeastern Conference Fall Academic Honor Roll, the league announced recently. The Razorbacks, under the direction of first-year head coach Robert Pulliza, saw seniors Caira Dortch, Christina Lawrence and Kristin Seaton, juniors Lauren Fielding and Lindsay Scanlan and sophomores Hillary McCormick, Mackenzie Rhea and Heather Royal honored. “We are very proud of the effort these student-athletes put in to receive this academic honor,” said Pulliza. “The most important thing for a student-athlete is graduation and these honorees certainly have their priorities in place. Of our 11 student-athletes, eight have been named to the SEC Fall Academic Honor Roll and two others, who were not eligible for this award, also had above a 3.0 gpa for the semester. It’s exciting to see that our student-athletes are going in the right direction.” The eight volleyball players were among 31 Arkansas student-athletes who were selected to this fall’s academic honor roll. To be selected, a student-athlete must have a grade point average of 3.00 or better including summer school; may be a scholarship, a letterwinner or a non-scholarship two-year varsity team member; must have successfully completed 24 of 36 quarter hours of non-remedial academic credit towards a degree; and he or she must have been a member of the varsity team for the sport’s entire NCAA Championship segment. The Razorback volleyball team begins spring workouts in Barnhill Arena this week.
