FAYETTEVILLE — Coming off a team title at the Crooked Stick Intercollegiate, the University of Arkansas men’s golf team found itself in the top 25 of all three national polls released on Wednesday. The Razorbacks moved up 11 spots in the Golfstat rankings to No. 18, while it came in at No. 20 in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches poll and No. 25 in the Golfweek/Sagarin ranking. The latter two national polls were voted on prior to Arkansas winning the Crooked Stick Intercollegiate on Tuesday. Arkansas erased a six-stroke final round deficit on Tuesday and turned it into a five-stroke win over the other 13 teams at Crooked Stick Golf Club. The win was program’s 18th under head coach Brad McMakin, as Arkansas closed the event with scores of three-under 285 and four-under 284. The team’s three top five finishes in four events this season have been fueled by scores of 290 or lower in the second and third rounds in seven of eight attempts. Senior Sebastian Cappelen brought home his fourth career individual title at Crooked Stick, firing three consecutive under-par rounds for the three-stroke victory. Cappelen has turned in a counting score in all 12 rounds this season, extending his streak of top 20s to eight while posting a team-low 71.4 stroke average. Cappelen’s three under-par rounds combined with two from junior Thomas Sorensen, one from sophomore Taylor Moore and one from senior Blake Biddle gave the Razorbacks seven of the 17 under-par rounds at the Crooked Stick Intercollegiate. Arkansas will close out its fall season on Sunday, Oct. 20, when it opens play at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational. The three-day event will be hosted by Texas Tech at Isleworth Golf & Country Club in Windermere, Fla. For more information on Arkansas men’s golf, follow the team on Twitter @RazorbackMGolf.
