FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team collected four wins on the first day of play at the Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) Invitational on Friday.
Posting the lone win in the main singles draw was senior Jovan Parlic. Parlic swept FGCU’s Eduardo Alfonzo in straight sets 6-3, 6-0. In the second round, Parlic battled with Ahmed Triki (Barry University) through three sets, but fell 6-4, 1-6, 7-5.
After losing in the initial round of the main draw, Razorback juniors Santiago Munoz and William Albanese and freshman David Herrerias all claimed consolation victories. Munoz beat Ian Van Cott of Tulane 6-2, 6-3. Albanese also defeated his competition in two sets, bettering Lucas Vaz (FGCU) 6-4, 7-5. Facing St. Leo University’s Fons Verberne, Herrerias netted a 3-6, 6-4, 11-9 win.
Play resumes at the FGCU Invitational Saturday at 8 a.m.
