@RazorbackMTEN Sweeps Quad With Jackson State

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Winning 16 singles matches in straight sets, the University of Arkansas men’s tennis team swept a quad with Jackson State at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center on Sunday.

“I’m pleased with our team’s work effort today,” head coach Andy Jackson said. “It’s hard to play four matches, but we need it to qualify for NCAAs.”

Claiming the first Arkansas win of the day was junior Santiago Munoz who defeated Styllanon Gkontsaris 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 5 spot. Next, junior Giammarco Micolani bettered Carlos Martinez 6-0, 6-1 and sophomore Johan den Toom beat Camilo Patino 6-2, 6-4. Sophomore Juan Marino clinched the match for the Razorbacks, netting a 6-0, 6-2 win over Hernan Gerla in the No. 6 position.

Junior William Albanese got things going for Arkansas in the second match, beating Richie Agarwal 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 spot. Playing in the No. 5 position, David Herrerias netted a 6-2, 6-2 win against Vishu Prasad. Closing out the match for the Razorbacks, senior Jovan Parlic defeated Miguel Gomez Martin 6-3, 6-0 and freshman Branch Terrell bettered Federico Mendletta 6-1, 6-1.

In the third match played, Munoz again collected the first Razorback win, netting a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Prasad. Next, den Toom beat Agarwal 6-1, 6-2 in the No. 3 position and Micolani bageled Miguel Marreiros 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot. Playing No. 6, Marino took Mendletta 6-2, 6-2.

Again playing in the No. 2 position, Parlic took on Martinez to win 6-1, 6-4. Then, Herrerias defeated Gkontsaris 6-2, 6-3 and Albanese netted a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Patino. Claiming the final Arkansas win of the day was Terrell who bettered Ryan Swanier 6-0, 6-1.

The Razorbacks next host SMU at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center at 1 p.m., CT on Saturday.
