Razorbacks Cap Successful First Day At Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Highlighted by the play of Ana Oparenovic and Mia Jurasic, Arkansas women’s tennis turned in an impressive performance on day one of flighted competition in Providence, Rhode Island against host Brown.

The afternoon began with a dominant performance in doubles play which secured three Razorback wins.
Oparenovic and Jurasic teamed up and took down Brown’s Alyza Benotto and Ammu Mandalap, 6-2, while the duos of Makenzie Craft/Flavia Araujo and Oleksandra Shkorupeieva/Myrna Olaya notched victories as well. Peyton Jennings and Nicole Breaux battled with Maddie Stearns and Mariska Chamdani but were held off 7-6.

Oparenovic and Jurasic continued their success on the singles court, claiming two of Arkansas’ five wins. Peyton Jennings, Nicole Breaux and Shkorupeieva each followed suit with victories of their own.

“Today was a very solid start for us with a particularly sharp performance in doubles,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “Being a tiebreaker away from sweeping doubles shows that we are making solid progress, and we will look to take a step forward tomorrow.”

Hegarty’s squad returns to the courts tomorrow to take on Boston College at 1 p.m. CT.
