Razorbacks Complete Day One Of Qualifying Draw

Qualifying Draw | Consolation Draw

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Despite valiant efforts, Shannon Hudson and Yuliya Lysa both dropped their opening round qualifying draw matches at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships Tuesday.

After an impressive run through the pre-qualifying draw, Hudson battled back-and-forth with Arizona State’s No. 26 Desirae Krawczyk, but Krawczyk went on to pull out the victory, 6-2, 4-6, 6-2.

Lysa fell in a tight three-set match to Baylor’s No. 53 Kiah Generette, 6-0, 4-6, 7-6 (5).

Despite the losses, the duo remained in competition in Pacific Palisades and competed in consolation play. Hudson advanced to the next round of the bracket via walkover while Lysa moved on after defeating Ohio State’s No. 117 Gabriella De Santis, 6-1, 6-7 (6), 6-2.

The Razorback pair returns to action tomorrow as Hudson will face California’s No. 64 Karla Popovic and Lysa will take on DePaul’s No. 119 Yuliya Shupenia.

“I’m very pleased overall with our effort and desire today,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “Both players improved with each match, and it will be great to see more highly ranked opposition tomorrow.”
