Razorbacks Complete First Day At Brown

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team earned four overall victories on the first day of competition at the Brown Classic on Friday.

Senior co-captain Sasha Shkorupeieva accounted for two of the Razorbacks’ wins as she earned a doubles victory to help the team complete a 3-0 sweep and collected a 6-3, 7-5 singles victory.

“Sasha really led the way in singles today and really earned her victory,” Arkansas head coach Michael Hegarty said.

Shkorupeieva teamed with junior Peyton Jennings to defeat Yale’s Elizabeth Zordani and Amy Yang 6-2.

In other doubles action, the pair of junior Mia Jurasic and sophomore Agne Cepelyte picked up a 6-3 win over Boston College’s Dasha Possokhova and Kylie Wilcox, while the sophomore duo of Shwetha Prabakar and Myrna Olaya beat Boston College’s Micayla Casella and Elene Tsokilauri 6-4.

“I’m not surprised that we played such strong doubles today as our doubles is upgraded from last season, noticeably,” Hegarty said. “We were very sharp and most importantly the quality was very high.”

Arkansas returns to action Saturday. First serve is set for 8 a.m. CT.
