Razorbacks Complete Series Win in 10th Inning,

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Charley Boyce quieted the Florida bats over the final 5.1 innings and Arkansas scratched out a 10th-inning run for a 3-2 win over the fourth-ranked Gators Saturday afternoon in front of 7,537 at Baum Stadium.
Stephen Robison raced home with one out in the bottom of the 10th inning on Clint Arnold’s sharply-hit ground ball to second base to score the Razorbacks’ winning run.
Robison got things started for the Hogs in the 10th by beating out an infield hit and advancing to second on a throwing error by the UF second baseman. The Gators’ Connor Falkenbach then intentionally walked Ben Tschepikow and hit Craig Gentry to load the bases for Arnold.
Boyce got the win after 5.1-scoreless innings of relief to improve to 8-6 on the season. He scattered four hits and struck out four on 55 pitches. Boyce has a 1.96 ERA in 36.2 innings of work since moving to the bullpen on a full-time basis on April 6.
It was also Boyce’s 24th career win, which moves him into a tie for fourth on the Arkansas-career charts. He is tied with Matt Carnes, who pitched for the Razorbacks from 1995-1997.
Arkansas is now 35-13 on the year and 11-12 in SEC play. The win gave the Hogs just their third conference series win of the season and their first in four weeks. Arkansas is now 3-0 in extra-inning games this season and 2-0 at Baum Stadium.
The loss dropped Florida out of the lead in the SEC East by a half game at 14-9 after Tennessee (14-8) beat South Carolina, 3-2. The Gators boasts a 31-15 overall record.
Florida starting pitcher Alan Horne took a no decision after holding the Hogs to two runs on four hits and striking out 12 over nine innings. Falkenbach (3-2) took the loss after pitching the 10th inning.
“We hung in there and got out of some jams,” Arkansas Head Coach Dave Van Horn said. “Give our guys some credit; they never quit. We only got six hits so you got to give their pitcher some credit. He really did a nice job.”
Robison, who had just entered the game in right field, made the play of the game defensively in the top of the eighth inning on a line shot off the bat of UF’s Brian Leclerc. He tracked down ball in the right-center field gap just prior to slamming into the wall for the second out of the inning.
“Robison really showed me something today,” Van Horn said. “He showed me a lot of courage and guts running full speed on the warning track.”
Arkansas got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the first inning with a two-out RBI single to right field by Scott Hode. Florida quickly tied the score at 1-1 in the third inning on Jeff Corsaletti’s RBI double.
The Gators then took a 2-1 lead in the fifth inning when Adam Davis doubled home Corsaletti with a shot into the right-center field gap.
Hode, who went 2-for-4, knocked in his second run of the game in the sixth inning to tie the score at 2-2.
Corsaletti led the Gators nine-hit attack with a 3-for-4 day at the plate and a RBI. Davis also collected two hits and drove in a run.
The Razorbacks will go for the sweep at 12:07 p.m. Sunday at Baum Stadium. RHP Josh Smith (1-1, 3.23 ERA) will go to the mound for the Razorbacks and Florida will counter with RHP Tommy Boss (5-3, 4.70 ERA). Sunday’s game can be heard on the Razorback Baseball Radio Network and will be televised on the Cox Sports Channel, which can be found on Cox digital cable in Northwest Arkansas (Channel 119).
