ATLANTA – The Arkansas swimming and diving team wrapped up its second day of competition Thursday at the 2016 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships at Georgia Tech’s McAuley Aquatic Center.

Day two featured the 200-yard freestyle relay, 500-yard freestyle, 200-yard individual medley, 50-yard freestyle, 400-yard medley relay and 1m springboard. The top 16 in each preliminary event advanced to the evening finals session.

Senior Anna Mayfield placed 31st overall in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 4:43.71. Senior Maddie Monroe finished 53rd in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.07. Sophomore diver Nicole Gillis capped the day, placing 20th on the 1m springboard, diving to a score of 279.00.

“Nicole had a really good day and missed just one dive,” Arkansas diving coach Jeff DiNicola said. “I’m looking forward to her competing in the 3m competition tomorrow and finishing strong at her first national meet.”

Action continues Friday at 9 a.m. with preliminaries of the 400-yard individual medley, 100-yard butterfly, 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard breaststroke, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard medley relay and 3m springboard. Finals for the events will begin at 5 p.m.

Mayfield and Monroe will each compete in the 200-yard freestyle while Gillis will compete on the 3m springboard.

“Both Anna and Maddie have the opportunity to be their best tomorrow,” Arkansas swimming and diving head coach Sean Schimmel said. “I’m looking for them to be competitive, have fun and let their training and ability show in the race.”

Complete coverage of the next three days will be streamed through AtlantaSwimming.com. Additionally, ESPN3.com will stream finals sessions Friday and Saturday, and ESPNU will air a two-hour show at 6 p.m., Tuesday, March 29.
