Razorbacks Conclude Opening Weekend

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — The Arkansas women’s tennis team closed out competition at the Little Rock Classic on Sunday, completing the first weekend of its fall slate.

Senior co-captain Sasha Shkorupeieva and junior Mia Jurasic led the way way in singles play, both earning victories.

“This was a really good weekend for the Razorbacks,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “Although it’s very early in the season, we have seen plenty of positive signs that this will be a great fall season.”

Shkorupeieva defeated West Virginia’s Lyn Yuen Choo 2-6, 6-2, 6-4, while Jurasic eased past West Virginia’s Christina Jordan 6-1, 6-2.

Shkorupeieva also teamed up with junior Peyton Jennings to defeat West Virginia’s duo of Choo and Kaja Mrgole 6-1 in doubles action.

The Razorbacks return to action at the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships, which are scheduled for Oct. 1-9 at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, California.
