Razorbacks Conclude Regional Run

MINNEAPOLIS – The Arkansas women’s tennis team wrapped up play at the USTA/ITA Central Regional Championships on Sunday at the at the Baseline Tennis Center on the University of Minnesota campus.

Despite its two singles teams and one doubles team being set back in the quarterfinals, the Razorbacks finished with an impressive, combined 18-6 record in singles and doubles play during the tournament.

“I’m extremely proud of all the ladies this weekend,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “While we came so close to sending multiple players to the he USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships in New York, ultimately we take our positive feelings back to practice where we are making great strides this year.”

In the doubles quarterfinals, the Razorback tandem of junior Mia Jurasic and sophomore Ana Oparenovic surrendered an 8-5 loss to  Missouri’s Amina Ismail and Beatriz Machado Santos.

In singles, senior co-captain Shannon Hudson pushed her match to three sets, but was edged out 7-5, 2-6, 7-5 by Oklahoma State’s Carla Tur Mari. Opaerenovic was held off 7-6, 6-0 by Oklahoma’s Lily Miyazaki.

The Razorbacks will return to action at the Missouri Invitational in Springfield, Missouri, on Oct. 28-29.
