Razorbacks Drop Series at Kentucky, 7-1

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Arkansas dropped its third straight SEC series on Sunday afternoon as Kentucky beat the Razorbacks 7-1 in front of 317 fans at Cliff Hagan Stadium.
Arkansas falls to 33-13 on the year and 9-12 in SEC play. The Hogs have lost seven of their last eight league games. It was Kentucky’s first SEC series win since beating South Carolina two out of three last season and the first Sunday win in league action under Head Coach John Cohen, who took over the UK program prior to the 2004 season.
Andrew Albers hurled a complete game for Kentucky to improve to 4-4 on the season. He allowed seven hits and struck out three on 129 pitches. The Wildcats turned three double plays in the first four innings to squelch several scoring opportunities for the Hogs.
Razorback starting pitcher Lee Land took the loss to fall to 1-2 on the season after allowing seven runs – five earned – on six hits in five innings of work. Land retired the first nine hitters he faced before running into trouble in the fourth inning.
Things got ugly for the Razorbacks in the fourth inning as the Wildcats touched up Land five runs on five hits. UK got four consecutive hits, highlighted by a RBI triple by Billy Grace and a run-scoring double by J.P. Lowen.
Kentucky increased its lead to 7-0 in the sixth inning with two runs on one hit. Michael Bertram doubled and came around to score on a pass ball and Grace reached on a throwing error by Land and scored on a sacrifice fly.
Josh Smith came on in relief in the sixth inning and pitched well, allowing just one hit in three innings of work and striking out four.
Blake Parker finally got the Razorbacks on the board in the seventh inning with a solo home run to left field. It was Parker’s ninth home run of the season and snapped a 14.1-inning scoreless streak by Albers.
Craig Gentry and Chris Hollensworth both collected two hits each to pace the Hogs’ seven-hit attack. Hollensworth has now hit in 10 straight games.
Arkansas is off until SEC-leading Florida visits Baum Stadium on Friday, May 6, for a 7:05 p.m. first pitch. The series continues on Saturday at 3:05 p.m. on Fox Sports Net and Sunday at 1:05 p.m. on Cox.
