Razorbacks Head to Houston Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – For the first time this indoor season, the University of Arkansas track and field squad will compete away from the friendly confines of their own facility, the Randal Tyson Track Center, as the Razorbacks head to Houston, Texas, to compete at the Houston Invitational.
The Houston Invitational will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday with the last race beginning at 5:30 p.m. The Hogs will once again be looking to qualify more members of the team for the 2001 NCAA Indoor Championships to be held at the Randal Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark., on March 9-10.
Hogs competing in running events include Kevin Baker in the 60-meter and 200-meter dash, Andy Beasley in the mile run, Danny De La Rosa in the 800-meter run, Chad Grundy in the mile run, Dirk Heinze in the 800-meter run, Eddie Jackson in the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles, Josh Landreth in the 800-meter run, Sean Lightfoot in the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles, Chris Mulvaney in the 800-meter run, Chandun O’Neal in the 60-meter and the 200-meter dash and Michael Thomas in the 60-meter dash and the 60-meter hurdles.
Razorbacks competing in field events include P.J. Brown in the pole vault, Blake Jorgenson in the pole vault, Evan Kirkconnell in the pole vault, Maurice Robinson in the triple jump, Richard Smith in the triple jump and the long jump and Jason Ward in the triple jump.
Teams scheduled to compete at the Houston Invitational include Houston, Arkansas, Florida A&M, Louisiana-Lafayette, New Orleans, Rice, Southeastern Louisiana, Southern Miss, Southwest Texas, Stephen F. Austin, Texas, Texas A&M, TCU, Texas Southern, Texas-Arlington and Texas-San Antonio.
The Razorbacks will return home on February 9-10 when they host the Tyson Invitational on Friday and USA Track and Field’s Golden Spike Tour on Saturday at the Randal Tyson Track Center. The meets begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday and 1:00 p.m. on Saturday.
