Razorbacks In Contention At NCAA Championship
Eugene, Ore. – The 21st-ranked Arkansas men’s golf team continued to stay in contention Saturday at the NCAA Championship, posting a 4-over 284 to sit alone in third place in the 30-team field at Eugene Country Club.
The Razorbacks (+6) are in the thick of the race at the top of the leaderboard, trailing championship leader Vanderbilt (+3) by three shots and second place Southern California (+5) by one stroke. The Southeastern Conference is well represented with four teams in the top six heading to the third round.
For the second straight day, Arkansas was paced by a 2-under 68, this time coming from freshman Charles Kim as he posted a team-high four birdies, including a birdie on his final hole of the day to lead the squad at 73-68 – 141 (+1).
Taylor Moore’s consistency was on display again Saturday, as he carried over a bogey free streak from Friday and went 26 holes without making a bogey. He was 2-under on the day through the first 13 holes, but shot 2-over the rest of the way finish at even-par for the day and the championship at 70-70 – 140 (E). The Edmund, Oklahoma native is only player in the field without a bogey on the back nine through the first two rounds and is T-15th overall.
Kolton Crawford was 5-over for the round walking up the fairway on the 17th hole, but he rolled in a 4-footer for birdie and followed that up with a birdie on the final hole to finish at 3-over for the day and at 68-73 – 141 (+1) for the championship.
Alvaro Ortiz had a roller coaster day, as he recorded consecutive pars just one time and his four birdies, five bogeys and one double bogey left him at 3-over for the day and at 72-73 – 145 (+5).
Nicolas Echavarria fell behind early with four bogeys on his opening side, but he followed that up with eight straight pars on his back side, before a bogey on the final hole of the day sent him to 72-75 – 147 (+7) for the tournament.
Arkansas will be in the final pairing Sunday morning, going off the first tee at 10:28 a.m. CT with No. 8 Vanderbilt and No. 3 USC.
