Razorbacks Looking to Earn Berth to NCAA Champ

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The defending national champion University of Arkansas cross country squad will be looking to earn a berth to the NCAA Championships on Saturday morning at the NCAA South Central Region Championships in Denton, Texas, at Eagle Point Golf Course. The Razorbacks have won 21 of the last 23 regional titles.
Running for the Hogs on Saturday are freshman Fernando Cabada, senior Alan Dunleavy, freshman Chris Mulvaney, senior Sharif Karie, junior Mark Thompson, senior Ryan Travis and sophomore Phil Yoder.
The Hogs return to action after defending last year’s Southeastern Conference title at the SEC Championships on Monday, Oct. 30, in Tuscaloosa, Ala. The win gave the Razorbacks their 65th conference title and 27th consecutive cross country titles, 10 of them since joining the SEC. UA senior James Karanu finished second, behind defending NCAA Champion David Kimani from Alabama, with teammates Murray Link close behind in third and sophomore Daniel Lincoln in fourth. The Hogs’ remaining points came from junior Mark Thompson finishing 8th and senior Frans Schimper in 10th. Other Hogs running at the SEC championships included Ryan Travis, Sharif Karie and Chris Mulvaney.
After the regional meet, the Razorbacks will look to defend their national title at the NCAA Championships in Ames, Iowa, on Monday, Nov. 18. The Hogs will be looking for their 11th national cross country title and their 36th national title.
