Arkansas Opens Fall Schedule In Athens
ATHENS, Ga. – The 2017 fall portion of the Arkansas men’s tennis schedule begins Friday at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Georgia.
Seven Razorbacks will represent Arkansas at the Championships – three juniors and four freshman. Junior Oscar Mesquida received a first round bye of the Division I singles bracket, as well as freshman Josh Howard-Tripp. Junior Matias Gonzalez, a transfer from Tulsa, will start the action for the Razorbacks with a 7 a.m. serve against Georgia Gwinnett’s Frederico Herrera Duran in the round of 64.
In the Division II bracket, junior Branch Terrell, along with freshmen Jose Alonzo and Alex Reco all received a bye in the round of 64.
Freshman Josh Bortnick will square off against Marwan Abaza of Florida Atlantic at 7:30 a.m. in the round of 64 of the Division III bracket.
In doubles, Mesquida will team up with Gonzalez to face the winner of the Andrei Andrukhou/Quentin Coulaud (Georgia State) and Malik Bhatnagar/Antoine Sanchez (Stetson) match in the round of 16, after receiving a bye.
Tripp-Howard and Terrell face Henry Patten and Oli Nolan of UNC Asheville in the first round of doubles action.
Alex Reco and Jose Alonzo were granted a first round bye, where they will play Philippe Courteau and Ozan Cildir (Lander), who also received a bye.
