Razorbacks Ready For ITA All-American
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas men’s tennis team returns to the courts this weekend at the ITA All-American Championship in Tulsa, Oklahoma. It’s the first ITA national championship tournament of the 2016-17 season and plays begins Saturday.
“The pre-qualifying at the ITA All-American is always a deep field,” head coach Andy Jackson said. “It will be a good opportunity for our guys to compete and try to advance. We look forward to continuing to get ready for the start of the team season in January.”
Eight of the top 10 singles players in the nation will be competing this weekend, including Ohio State’s Mikael Torpegaard, the No. 1 player in the nation, and each of the top 10 doubles teams, including Oklahoma State’s top-ranked duo of Julian Cash and Arjun Kadhe.
Mike Redlicki, fresh off his Southern Intercollegiate singles title and the No. 11 player in the nation, along with Jose Salazar, the No. 45 player in the nation, will begin play in the main draw, which begins on Thursday, Oct. 6. The 32nd-ranked doubles team of Redlicki and Adam Sanjurjo will begin play in the qualifying draw, which begins Monday, Oct. 3.
Other Razorbacks in action this weekend include Johan den Toom, Juan Marino, Austin Robles, Branch Terrell and Jacob Herndon, who get underway in prequalifying singles matches Saturday.
The tournament will have live scoring available, beginning on Tuesday, Oct. 4, and live streaming will also be available for pre-qualifying and qualifying round matches and main draw matches.
Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive an automatic entry into the 2016 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Nov. 3-6, held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, New York.
Results will be posted at the conclusion of each day throughout the tournament.
