Razorbacks Ready to Compete at SEC Golf Champi

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – This weekend Arkansas is sending five Razorbacks to compete in the 2002 Southeastern Conference Golf Championship. Juniors Beau Galyean and Drew Higginbothom, sophomores Adam Wing, Andrew Dahl and Chad Faucett will all travel to the SEC Championship in St. Simons Island, Ga. on April 18-21.
“I can tell you we are real excited to go play our conference championship,” Arkansas head coach Mike Ketcham said. “From what I understand, this golf course will be one of the best, if not the best, golf courses that we have played all year. From a difficulties standpoint, par is a very good number. I think if you look through this past year at golf courses that we have played that are very similar to San Antonio and Hawaii are where we had our most success. Par was a good number at those golf courses. It’s not going to be a birdie shoot-out. If we can keep it around 288-292 each day, we should be very competitive with maybe a chance of winning this thing in the end. I know the guys are excited; the coaching staff is excited. We’ve prepared them to our best ability, and now it is time to go compete and try to win a championship.”
Wing leads the team with the lowest stroke average of 73.6. His highest finish was at the University of Tennessee Tournament of Champions in Knoxville, Tenn. He shot rounds of 70, 69 and 71 and finished sixth overall with a score of 210. Wing has been the top team finisher in four tournaments this season.
Galyean earned SEC Golfer of the Week honors on February 21 after he tied for ninth place in the Taylor Made Golf Classic in Kona, Hawaii. He shot rounds of 72, 72 and 73 and finished ninth overall with a score of 217. Galyean has also been the top team finisher in four tournaments this season and has a stroke average of 74.1.
Faucett has been the top team finisher in two tournaments this season and his stroke average is 74.8. Faucett’s best finish was at the Country Club of Louisiana Invitational in Baton Rouge, La. where he shot rounds of 71, 73 and 73. His final score was 217 as he placed 19th overall.
Higginbothom’s highest finish for the season came at the San Antonio Invitational in San Antonio, Texas where he tied for 10th place with a score of 222. He shot rounds of 76, 69 and 77. Higginbothom’s stroke average for the season is 75.4.
Dahl was the top team finisher at the Louisiana Classic in Lafayette, La. That tournament is also where he had his best finish after he shot rounds of 75, 74 and 74 to place 34th overall with a score of 223. His stroke average for the season is 75.6.
After the Razorbacks return from the SEC Championship they will return to the course on May 10-12 at The Maxwell in Ardmore, Okla.
