Razorbacks Selected As No. 1 of South Central Region

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas men’s cross country team have been selected as the top team out of the South Central Region, announced by the USTFCCCA on Monday afternoon.

The Razorback men have won the South Central Region title three out of the last five years and return four out of their top five scorers from last year’s winning team.

Arkansas senior and top returner Gabe Gonzalez is a three-time All-Region honoree and will lead a group of old and new Razorbacks through a strong a regular season line-up to post-season competition.

In addition to their No. 1 regional rank, Arkansas is predicted to finish second at the 2015 SEC Championships set to be held in College Station, Texas on Oct. 30.

Arkansas is coming off of its fifth consecutive SEC title which saw a close match up between the Razorbacks and the Rebels of Ole Miss who claimed the second spot with a six point differential.

With the addition of two-time NJCAA cross country All-American Frankline Tonui and three returning All-SEC honorees in Alex George who was also SEC Co-Freshman Runner of the Year, Gonzalez and Cale Wallace Arkansas looks to race past this prediction and onto their 23rd SEC cross country championship crown.

The Razorbacks head to their first meet of the season on Sept. 1 where they will take on Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Tulsa in a 5,000 meter race at the Cowboy Preview in Stillwater, Okla.
