Razorbacks Set The Pace In West Virginia

Round 2 Suspended Results

BRIDGEPORT, West Virginia – The Arkansas men’s golf team caught fire in the second round of the Mountaineer Intercollegiate Monday afternoon and holds seven-shot lead on the field as play was suspended due to darkness at the Pete Dye Golf Club.

Arkansas opened the day with a 2-over 290 and was one shot back of the lead as the second round started. The Razorbacks came out firing in the afternoon and rattled off 19 birdies as all five players were under par in the round before play was halted. Arkansas ran its score to 9-under for the round and 7-under for the tournament when the sun set on the first day of competition. The Razorbacks still have 16 holes to complete as a team in the second round.

The slew of red numbers was led by five birdies each from Alvaro Ortiz and Luis Garza as the duo is T-2nd overall at 5-under for the championship and just two shots back of the lead.

Dylan Naidoo added four birdies of his own and was 2-under in the second round to get back to even par for the event. Charles Kim and Mason Overstreet combined for five birdies in the afternoon and are both 3-over respectively and T-33rd overall.

The Razorbacks will resume play Tuesday morning looking to capture a team victory for the 11th consecutive year under head coach Brad McMakin. In his 11th year at the helm of the program, McMakin has guided Arkansas to 22 tournament titles, including 17 during the last six seasons.

When play was halted, Arkansas led the field in par four scoring at 3-under, par five scoring at 11-under and paces the tournament with 35 birdies. Garza leads all players in par five scoring at 6-under and his second in the field with 10 birdies.

Cincinnati is alone in second place at even par and seven shots back of Arkansas, while Mississippi State (+1) is third, James Madison (+2) is fourth and host West Virginia (+4) rounds out the top five.

The second round will resume Tuesday morning at 9 a.m., immediately followed by the final round. Live stats will be available at Golfstat.com or via the Golfstat Live app.
