Razorbacks Split Play in Milwaukee Classic

MILWAUKEE- In its first tournament of the fall slate, the Arkansas women’s tennis team split play at the Milwaukee Classic. Juniors Jackie Carr and Lauren Alter both earned victories while Tatum Rice and Martina Zerulo fell in the opening round.

Carr earned a 3-6, 6-0, 7-5 win over the No. 12 seeded Brianna Shvets of Princeton in the Razorbacks’ only victory over a seeded player. She will face Elisabeth Desmarais of Marquette in the Round of 32.

Zerulo fell 7-6(6), 6-7(0), 5-7 to the No. 7 seed Sofya Golubovskaya in the tiebreaker set, while Rice was defeated 6-2, 6-2 by Martina Cappuro of Oklahoma.

In the Hogs’ final match of the day, Alter earned a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Kristen Thoms of Florida Atlantic. She will face No. 9 seeded Guzal Yusupova of Syracuse in tomorrow’s match.

Arkansas will continue play at the Milwaukee Classic tomorrow in addition to opening play at the Minnesota Invite.
