Razorbacks Start Strong At UTSA Cup
SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Arkansas men’s tennis team went 7-1, including a perfect 4-0 in doubles matches, on the first day of round-robin play at the UTSA Cup at the UTSA Tennis Center in San Antonio.
In a hidden dual-meet format, Arkansas went 5-1 against tournament host UTSA, with a 2-0 record in doubles matches and 3-1 record in singles matches. To conclude the day, Arkansas won both of its doubles matches against the Incarnate Word ‘A’ team.
“We played a lot today and felt like we made progress,” head coach Andy Jackson said. “We are looking forward to tomorrow as the level of competition increases this weekend.”
The doubles team of Johan den Toom and Austin Robles won both their matches, as did the doubles team of Juan Marino and Jacob Herndon. In singles play, Johan den Toom, Juan Marino and Austin Robles won their respective matches without dropping a single set.
Arkansas continues round-robin play tomorrow with singles matches against the Incarnate Word ‘A’ team and singles and doubles matches against the Lamar ‘B’ team. Tournament play will conclude Sunday with singles and doubles matches according to team finish in round-robin play.
