FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – After a first place team finish at the Arkansas Invitational on September 7, the Razorback cross country team will head to their second competition of the season at the Missouri Southern Invitational in Joplin, Mo., on Saturday. The 8,000-meter race is scheduled to begin at 9:45 a.m.
“We’ll have a lot more people in the line up this weekend,” Arkansas head coach John McDonnell said. “It will be a good indication of how good we’re going to be. Since it’s so early in the season, we need guys to step up in order to make this a good and successful season.”
Twelve runners will represent Arkansas in the 8K invitational. Seniors Chad Grundy and Patrick Thomas; juniors Westley Alkin, Silverus Kimeli, Daniel Lincoln, Chris Mulvaney, Robbie Stevens; sophomore Jason Sandfort; and freshmen Said Ahmed, Luis Bordes, James Hatch and Michael Taylor will all compete on Saturday.
Kimeli captured the individual title in a career best time of 20:00 at the four-mile Arkansas Invitational, while Alkin came in third with a time of 20:25 and Sandfort finished in fifth with a time of 20:40.
Next on the agenda for the Hogs is Oklahoma State’s 8K Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla., on October 5.
